Went for a wander around the Coombabah Wetlands Reserve this morning - birds wouldn't co-operate, and was way too hot and dry ... as happens sometimes ... ;-)

Spent a lazy hour or so soaking up the sights and sounds of the waves hitting the rocks at Fingal Heads (and of course a sneaky peek or two of the terns and gulls "shooting the breeze") ... priceless

Beautiful Betsy

Beautiful Betsy, an American B-24D Liberator Bomber, disappeared on a routine flight from Darwin to Brisbane 26-27 February 1945 with six Ameriacn crewman and two Brittish Pilots as a passengers. The wreckage remained hidden on a remote hilltop in Kroombit Tops National Park for 49 years until a chance discovery by a park ranger undertaking buring operations in 1994. The site is now maintained as a war memorial, a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives.

On a clear day you can see the ships in Gladstone Harbour, unfortunately not today ...

As part of our trip to Monto, we finally made it into Kroombit Tops National Park - a bit dry at the moment but a beautiful spot nonetheless...
